So, you want to work from home? Do you want a home-based business or a job? There IS a difference. Many people confuse the two. i have been self-employed for the last 14 years, as both an Independent Contractor and a business owner.
Running an online business is WORK! Just like running an off-line one. Your pay depends on your effort and talent. You have to bring the client or customer to you, where in an online job, your employer gives you the work.
There are some gray areas here. You can work a job and be an Independent Contractor, which means that you are self-employed and basically in business for yourself. It’s still different than RUNNING an entire business.
Occasionally when I need extra income, I do some Merchandising work. I look for assignments on their job boards. As an Independent Contractor (I.C.), I am responsible for reporting and paying my own taxes as an employer would have done. I am working a job, but I am also self-employed as well. i also go to article sites that have ghost writing opportunities.
I don’t have to get the the contracts at the various stores, advertise help wanted, and all the other things involved in running a business- I just accept the assignment, do it, report the work done and get paid, and start over unless I find an ongoing one. My main responsiblitiy is to do my own accounting, taxwise. I hope you see the difference.
As far as online jobs go, there are plenty of them out there. Cust Service, Tech support, Virtual Assistants ( which could be a job or a business), ghost writing, and many others. And of course, beware of the scams. never pay to get a job- although some sites do require you to be a paid member to join their job board . Do your research on them first. If they have a free or low cost trial- try them out, if you don’t find work by the trial’s end- move on.
