Tis The Season For Identity Theft

This entry is part 6 of 6 in the series Internet & PC Security

The Holidays are approaching and protecting your personal information should be tops on your list. Black Friday and Cyber Monday will be here before we know it. Today’s post will share ways that thieves get your info and ways to help protect yourself.

Some ways they can get your information are by:

* trash picking and dumpster diving- ALWAYS shred or burn anything w/ your financial or identification info. I prefer burning, it’s more thorough. I use mine to start the fire in the fireplace or burn it in the grill after a BBQ.
* Picking through your mail- if you have an unlocked mailbox, anyone walking by can pilfer through your mail and take anything w/ your info or those pre-approved credit cards. Get a box at the post office or MailBoxes Etc (if you want an address for packages to be deliverable to) or get a mailbox that can be locked.
* Be very careful what info you enter online or in an application- ask yourself if they really NEED it. We are so used to filling in all the blanks, often without thinking if they really need our SS# or DL#, or other info. So Think before you Click!
* Pay attention to what the URL is in the address bar when online. There are more and more realistic looking sites resembling banks, payment processors like PayPal, Amazon. Do not click the links in emails, you are better off typing them in yourself. A phished or fake site, could easily be hiding in hyper-linked text. Big sites like eBay, PayPal, and Overstock.com have the Extended verification SSL through Verisign and the address turns green when on the actually site- a fake site will not have the green address bar.
* Having your email or online account hacked. Strong Continue reading

Clickbank Is More Than An Info Product Service

Most of us consider Clickbank as a service dedicated solely to digital products. A digital product by definition is a something you sell. It may be an e book about anything from children’s stories to a clinical study to a guidebook to the way to play a terrific game of golf. It could be a software package deal that makes life easier or about a very cool sport you invented. However by definition, it is “some thing”. Which signifies that in that context, the marketplace is all about the stuff. Continue reading
